"It was my mother who was an accomplished artist who encouraged my drawing, tracing and copying as a child. While attending John McCrady's Art School in the French Quarter, it was through working with still life and the model that I learned more about line and form as well as the use of color. In the 1970s and 80s, as an activist in the New Orleans artist movement and in association with contemporary artists, I began to explore Matisse, Picasso and the cubists and introduce their forms into my work."
